Phonak
Company Overview
Technological development continued in the early 1990s with the PiCS Hearing Computer, innovations in wireless technology, and AudioZoom multi-microphone technology. Production moved to Suzhou, China in 2003. In 2006, Phonak introduced the Hear the World initiative to raise awareness about the detrimental effects of hearing loss as well as the benefits of treatment. This initiative was groundbreaking in focusing on the social and psychological effects of hearing loss, as well as the importance of prevention. In 2007, Phonak opened a production facility in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
This history is a glimpse into the core values at Phonak. Of utmost importance is the company’s mission to meet the social and psychological needs of those who experience hearing loss. We know that the effects of social isolation can have devastating effects for many who find it difficult to communicate as they once did. Phonak focuses on exactly this issue when developing hearing assistance, making sure that the wearers of their aids can hear voices crisply and clearly, no longer feeling a struggle to connect with others.
As they move into the future, the company will continue to develop new features and functions but always with a focus on the social and psychological needs of hearing aid wearers. Technological innovations have continued in the last decade to include rechargeable batteries, Bluetooth connectivity, biometric measures, and the development of industry-leading water-resistant housing.
